The Pomegranate sweater is a light and oversized sweater designed with a drop shoulder construction to get that cozy feeling. The gauge is loose compared to the weight of the yarn which makes it perfect when the weather is too warm for heavier fabrics but still too cold to not have a second layer on.

With the help of the European shoulder construction the back piece is knitted with increases. When the back piece is finished stitches are picked up along the shoulder to create the front. Lastly the back and front are connected under the arm and are then knitted in the round.

The edges are finished with an i-cord bind off to make the process fast and easy. The collar is knitted in twisted ribbing but can easily be modified for a more classic 1x1 rib if that is what you prefer.

Difficulty: 3/5

You will also need a cable needle. The specified needle sizes are only recommendations. Always use the needle that gives you the correct gauge!

Recommended yarn
XS: Pernilla: 200g Tynn silk mohair: 75g
S: Pernilla: 200g Tynn silk mohair: 75g
M: Pernilla: 250g Tynn silk mohair:100g
L: Pernilla: 300g Tynn silk mohair: 125g
XL: Pernilla: 350g Tynn silk mohair: 150g
XXL: Pernilla: 400g Tynn silk mohair: 175g

The used yarns are only a recommendation. You can use a different combination of yarns to create this sweater. However I would recommend that you have the following things in mind when choosing your yarn:

  • The pattern is using a light DK together with a lace weight yarn on a 6 mm needle to create a nice drape. If you decide to change the yarn make sure that you like the fabric that your yarn creates.
  • You can use a thicker yarn if you want to but remember that the fabric will look and feel different.
  • Make your gauge swatch quite large and don’t be gentle when blocking. The finished sweater grew a lot compared to my first gauge swatch. Probably because of the large needles in relation to the thickness of the yarn.

Sizing

The Pomegranate sweater has a very oversized fit and the sizes are calculated with the help of standard measurements. If you go down a size I can’t guarantee that the upper sleeves will be comfortable. Recommended positive ease are about 47-53 cm or 18 ½ - 20 ¾ in. Measure yourself over the chest to find your best fit.
